I have made my admiration for Peter Cushing's portrayal of Sherlock Holmes quite clear in previous posts. Cushing's first time playing Holmes was in the 1959 Hammer Films production, the first color film adaptation of this classic Holmes novel. Of course, considering Hammer Films' reputation for horror thrillers, this version is a bit more sensational than the average Hound adaptation. (Christopher Lee's Henry Baskerville encounters a "deadly" tarantula while in London, for example.) Still, this is an enjoyable film: Cushing is great, and Andre Morell's Watson is quite solid. You can watch the film at the links below (the film is divided into two parts on DailyMotion.)
