I was on a Sherlock Holmes message group, and someone mentioned the comic book series entitled Adler. It's a bit like The League of Extraordinary Gentlemen, but in this case the group is made up of Victorian female literary characters: Irene Adler, Jane Eyre, and more. I've only read the first issue thus far (available through my public library at hoopladigital.com), but it looks like James Moriarty is the main villain in the series. I'm wondering if Sherlock Holmes himself will show up, or if he'll just continue to be mentioned here and there, and remain in the shadows. Readers of A Study in Scarlet may be entertained (or offended, I suppose) at how Jane Eyre meeting Irene Adler mirrors the more famous first meeting of a famous detective and his loyal doctor friend. Meanwhile, the artwork and writing are quite good. I'm looking forward to reading the rest of the series!
The series is published by Titan Comics, and you can see samples of the series (as well as another series based on the BBC's Sherlock) at their website.
