For the past thirty-odd years I’ve been a fan of Sherlock Holmes. I began reading the stories at about age 10, when my great aunt gave me a paperback Holmes anthology. I found the stories so intriguing, I soon saved up the money to purchase Doubleday’s edition of The Complete Sherlock Holmes. By the time I was 12 or 13, I had read all of the Holmes stories and novels written by Arthur Conan Doyle. Fast forward to the present…I’m 44 and it’s never been a more exciting time to be a Holmes fan! There are the two Guy Ritchie films, starring Robert Downey Jr. as Holmes and Jude Law as Watson (not my favorite Holmes, but to each his own); there’s the marvelous BBC series Sherlock, with Benedict Cumberbatch as Holmes and Martin Freeman as Watson; and most recently, we have the CBS TV program Elementary, starring Jonny Lee Miller as Holmes, and Lucy Liu as Joan Watson. Holmes is everywhere…
So I’ve been immersing myself lately in the world of Holmes, both in his original Victorian setting, and in his new 21st century settings. And as Dr. Watson does in the Sherlock series, I decided to start a blog: I’ll share my thoughts about favorite stories, favorite TV and film adaptations, and whatever other Sherlockiana comes to mind. Here on Weebly, once again, the game’s afoot!
I'm a stay-at-home dad, and Director of Music Ministries at a United Methodist Church in Mt. Juliet, TN. And a longtime fan of Sherlock Holmes.
